Foodbanks Benefit from Chapter Success
Rich Holzbach, Food Resource Manager at the Central Virginia Foodbank in Richmond, accepted a check for $250 recently from LaTonya Whitaker, marketing coordinator with Hankins & Anderson, on behalf of SMPS Virginia.

The check was the first of four to be delivered to regional foodbanks across Virginia this month.

Each year, SMPS Virginia selects a local charity to support with proceeds from the Chapter golf tournament and programs. In the past, the Chapter has contributed to Habitat for Humanity and Relay for Life. This year, with rising gas prices triggering increases to food costs, Virginia Foodbanks are reporting dramatic increases in patronage. To help, SMPS Virginia is donating a total of $1,000 with equal amounts going to the Central Virginia Foodbank in Richmond, the Foodbank of Southeastern Virginia in Norfolk, Thomas Jefferson Area Food Bank in Charlottesville, and the Second Harvest Foodbank in Salem. The Chapter’s total donation was distributed evenly by region this year, based on locations of the 2008 regional brown bag sessions, to reflect the work and reach of our members across the state.
“As AEC marketers, we understand the importance and meaning of work that benefits our communities,” said Cindy Allen, Chapter president. “That’s a key reason we chose to help support Virginia Foodbanks—we recognize and are grateful for the work they do to help keep Virginia strong and healthy.”
Sincere thanks are extended to all who have supported SMPS Virginia programs, conferences and the golf tournament of late. “Your participation makes it possible for the Chapter to give back,” Allen concluded.
